The New Tamar Lifeboat 1/12th Model made by Speedline models. This model was be built as the Shoreham Lifeboat. |
![]() If you click on the photo it will take you to the Speedline Models web site. ![]() ![]() The bow thruster is one of the new ones from Deans Marine ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Tamar uses 55mm 5 bladed props these are from the prop shop ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The shafts I am using are from Graupner. ![]() ![]() So project Tamar is now under way, I will be doing the full build like I have done the Severn. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So we are now under way with my latest of many projects. The hull and wheelhouse has come from Speedline models and it is another fine example of workmanship. As you will have seen in the photos I have installed the prop-shafts and brush-less motors which I will do a full write up about them later, manly because its new to me and possibly other's. I have now made up the skeg which is used to help line up the Tamar hull when she is pulled back up the slipway from 2 pieces of 5mm thick perspex them covered the sides with 2 mm plasti-card to get to the same thickness as the keel Next job will be to machine up a solid brass bar which fits between the underside of the keel to the top of the skeg. When this is made and test fitted it will be bolted in place. ![]() ![]() On the under side of the skeg there is a solid bar which supports the rear end of the skeg to the underside of the hull. I have made this in solid brass with the mounting flange. If I have my facts right on the real Tamar this is designed to take a impact vertically of 60 Tons. ![]() ![]() The stern end of the keel has a taper to it so this has been shaped and filled before i fit the skeg. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The bow Ballard is the same size as the one on the Severn lifeboat, this I have made form alloy bar and turned it to the right size on the lathe. I have drilled a 3mm hole in the bottom so I can bolt it to the deck, and it can be used for towing if required. ![]() ![]() The side handrail is made from solid brass bar and bent to shape as required, I have made all the flanges to fit it to the side of the wheel house with 14BA bolts. ![]() ![]() Theres a lot of work involved in making this right, one of the main deference to the Severn one is it has a small davit fitted for lowering the delta anchor over the bow. I cant take all the credit for this as my best mate Kim started it of for me on one of his many visits to the workshop, it is made from 4mm dia solid brass bar. Kim made up the main loop first which took some time to get it right, he then bent the two downward ends which through no fault of his own the brass Barr broke!! he is such a strong boy!!!. So we had a cup-per to decide best course of Acton and decided that he would bend up the two ends independently, and then silver solider them on to which he did and a fine job it turned out. I then added the rest of the supports and made up the working davit, in total this has taken 3 days work, but it looks good and works, seems a shame to paint it black!!! at the end of each mounting post I have tapped a 4mm thread on the end so as when this pass through the deck it can be held in place with a washer and nut. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hull has now been rubbed down and sprayed with filler primer I use halfords plastic filler primer. ![]() ![]() Two rudder tubes fitted with support blocks fitted to the inside then drilled through and bolted in place ready for the rudders. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Tamar Build Part 2 | | Motor Up Grade | 1/16th Scale Severn | 17-21 model Lifeboat Build | Tamar | Atlantic 21 | lifeboat photos on disc | | Return Home | Lifeboat General Photos | My Lifeboat Model Page | 1/12th Speedline Trent 14-14 Commission Build | Other scale lifeboats | LMEE January 2011 Alexandra Palace London | R.N.L.I.
