![]() Wheelhouse painting. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() " Nice outfit Phil" ![]() why thank you kind sir, "its my little Sunday spraying set" Little!! I think you mean LARGE!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fitting The 1600+ Bolt heads. So with the wheelhouse now painted its time to get stuck in to the rest of the detail work. The first job for me was to make a copper tea!!! So with that done it was time to make a start in fitting these bolt heads. Before I put the top coat of paint, on I had drilled all the holes through the wheelhouse where the bolt heads would sit, with this done I then used a 3mm drill to put a small chamfer on the hole, this would make life a lot easer when fitting the bolt heads. Now to fit these bolt heads on, I have found the best way to do it, is as follows, you will need a long pointed set of tweezers, a small pot to put in the super glue, and a piece of thin brass rod. Use the brass rod to put a small amount of super glue over the hole, then pick up your bolt head and drop it in the hole!! It is not as hard as it looks; it has taken me 3 hrs over two nights to complete the port side, that also includes Knocking all the bolt heads on to the floor! Good job I have a wooden floor. It sure does make the model start to really come to life, I also fitted all the windows on the port side, these I have glued in place with clear silicone, NOT SUPER GLUE. I will start the starboard side next to complete the detail. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Decals. On the port and starboard sides of the wheelhouse there are fitted the R.N.L.I. flag the lifeboat name, and the wording lifeboats with the Royal National lifeboat Institution underneath. This I needed to be of the correct size and type face, or as near as it could be made, I did a search on the good old internet and up came apart from others a company called Model Flags .com, I had a look through the web site and found some R.N.L.I. flags and so on but not what I needed for the Severn. So I sent e-mail to them explaining what I was after, and a reply came back very fast Brian who runs Model flags. I then sent him some patterns and a list of my requirements, within a three days I had had a rely telling me that all could be made to order, with a estimated cost, I then told Brian to go a head. Model flags had hoped to get all the items to me before I attended the Warwick show, but as I had made some changes to my order this was not possible. Well I received my order and I must say the work that has been put into these decals is fantastic, they are spot on in size and typeface and colour, I will be adding them to the wheelhouse very soon. If you click the photo you will be taken to the Modelflags web site. ![]() ![]() Well I have now had the decals from model flags for to long so its time to get them fitted. As I now know they are scale size I fitted the blue lifeboats decal first, taking the measurements from the R.N.L.I. drawing. The decals are cut out on a sheet with a wax backing on it, and on the top of that is a semi clear front, you have to rub the back of the wax paper not too hard to make the decal stick to the clear front, then you can very slowly removed the wax backing leaving the decal ready to apply to the model. With the decal all lined up to where you want it, all you then do is rub gently the decal through the clear front and it sticks to your model, then very gently remove the clear front and you have a very perfect decal fitted. | The Model Build Part 2 | Model build Part 5 | Model Build Part 6 | Crew figures | Y-Boat | Sea Trials | | Motor Up Grade | 1/16th Scale Severn | 17-21 model Lifeboat Build | Tamar | Atlantic 21 | lifeboat photos on disc | | Return Home | Lifeboat General Photos | My Lifeboat Model Page | 1/12th Speedline Trent 14-14 Commission Build | Other scale lifeboats | LMEE January 2011 Alexandra Palace London | R.N.L.I.
